Jake McMurchie: jazz saxophone player and composer, web designer and developer, living in Bristol, UK

Music

My musical career began at 16. I play the saxophone and am a professional musician. My musical focus is usually described as jazz but what that really means is that I love to play the saxophone and I love to improvise. Below are some examples of my playing on various projects I've been involved with

What Four

http://www.whatfour.co.uk

What Four had a long-standing involvement with Yehudi Menuhin's outreach organisation "Live Music Now!". In 1995 the band was commissioned by South West Arts and Live Music Now! to write "Dawn to Dusk", a suite of original music that involved adults with learning difficulties from Radstock's Hilltop Centre and culminated with a performance at the Bath International Festival. This was followed by a recording and a national tour sponsored by Jazz Services. The band went on to perform specially commissioned work for two subsequent years at the festival, both involving Hilltop, and also involving Jerwood award winning dancer and choreographer Yael Flexer.

From "Synergy" (2000)

In 1999 What Four was commissioned by Birmingham Jazz to produce "Synergy", an ambitious project to combine jazz and dance/electronic music (before everyone else started doing it). The result was well received and lead to gigs at the Cheltenham and Brecon Jazz Festivals.
