"... Jake McMurchie: Where has he been? ... a very, very good saxophonist. Very original, very passionate... a very sexy sound."
Jack Massarik, Radio 3 Jazz Line-up, 10 Nov 2007
The above was a review of The Blessing at Pizza Express, Dean Street, London, the band I share with Pete Judge, Jim Barr and Clive Deamer. The Evening Standard gave us 4 stars. The album All Is Yes has received 5 stars in BBC Music Magazine, 4 stars in Mojo and 4 stars in The Times. a 7 inch single of "Bleach Cake" is due out soon. We will be touring in June and July and again in the autumn, with a tour of Germany included in that period.
I front the Jake McMurchie Quartet which features Dan Moore, Matt Jones and Dave Johnston, playing hard-bop and soul-jazz classics.
I am also involved with excellent guitarist James Chadwick in a quartet also featuring Andy Hague and Dave Goodier, playing original music. Dates forthcoming.
I have played live with Portishead and the Super Furry Animals and have featured on the recordings of Stephanie Mackay and Mark Gauvin. I'm featured on "Ma DJ makes it hot" by The Nineth, an off-shoot of Oblit-R8, which won Music Tech Magazine's Best House Track of 2006. I also appeared (and mimed) on an episode of Casualty.
Other ventures of note are The Invisible Pair of Hands, Emma Hutchinson, Oblit-R8, the Katie Elliott Quintet, sax quartet Quadrophonic and John Law. Past projects include What Four, Ultrasound and Musaic. What Four had a long-standing involvement with Yehudi Menuhin's outreach organisation "Live Music Now!". I've also appeared on radio with the Super Furry Animals.
When I was still able to class myself as young I gigged regularly with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and played with the great Portugese singer Fernando Tordo at the National Theatre in Lisbon.

My main areas of interest and expertise lie in client liaison/requirements gathering, the design and build of websites using xhtml and css and server-side development using php/mysql. I produce customised CMS solutions for clients using WordPress.
And the rest...
I gig regularly, and I write and record music. I am a keen cook and have my own allotment (more brawn than brains on my part I should probably add). I am actively involved with Bristol Friends of the Earth, campaigning as well as helping to develop and maintain the online presence for a number of current campaigns. I am also involved in my childrens' school (Westbury Park School) and play football (albeit rather badly). My main focus, however, is my two children aged 5 and 7.
